Samuel Taylor was born on October 21, 1772 in Ottondale, Devon, England. His family was not wealthy, but educated, and the young showed outstanding abilities in the study of literature and languages. After leaving school, he entered the University of Cambridge, where he studied classical literature and philosophy. During this time he began writing poetry and participating in literary discussions. His interest in philosophy, especially the work of German idealists such as Immanuel Kant and Friedrich Schelling, became an important part of his education.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge is known for his poems, including The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and The Cup of Sweet Water, which have become classics of English literature. His poems are distinguished by a wealth of imagination, deep emotions and the use of language.

Coleridge was also a great literary critic and critic. His lectures on Shakespeare and his essays on poetry had a significant impact on literary criticism.
