Robert Lewis Stevenson - Biography

Stevenson, one of the most famous and valuable writers in Scotland and the world in the 19th century, left an indelible mark on the history of literature. His adventure novels and mystical works are still read with pleasure, and his literary legacy remains an inspiration to many. Let's dive into Robert Lewis Stevenson's biography, from his early years to his influence on world literature.

Robert Lewis Bruce was born on 13 November 1850 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was the son of Thomas Stevenson, an engineer and lighthouse builder, and Margaret Isabelle Bruce. From a family where technique and creativity combined, he inherited an interest in the sea and fantasy.

From childhood, Robert developed an interest in literature and began writing short stories and poetry. His first works were published in family magazines, and this was the beginning of his literary path. He attended the University of Edinburgh and continued to develop his writing talent.

One of the most important events in the life of Robert Stevenson was his journey across the ocean. In 1876, he went to sea as a traveler and writer. This voyage served as the basis for his book "On the Seas," in which he described his impressions of sea adventures.

However, Robert Stevenson's real literary success was the novel Treasure Island, published in 1883. This adventure piece follows a treasure hunt on an island and has become incredibly popular. His next works, such as "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," explored the theme of double personality and the dark sides of human nature.

Robert Stevenson's health was undermined by illness and he was forced to seek a warm climate outside Scotland. He traveled to various countries, including the United States, Hawaii and Samoa. In recent years, he settled on the island of Samoa and became a member of the local community.
