Francis was born on 22 January 1561 in York, England to aristocratic parents. His father was Lord Privy Seal and his mother was the daughter of the Archbishop of Canterbury. From an early age he showed an extraordinary ability for study and logical thinking.

Francis received a classical education at Trinity College of Cambridge University and later continued his studies in Greece and Italy. Returning to England, he began his political career and became a Member of Parliament. His ability to argue and analyze events helped him take high government positions.

Francis became one of the founders of empiricism - a philosophical trend that claims that knowledge comes from experience and observation of the world. His work "New Organon" made a significant contribution to the development of the scientific method and methodology and became one of the key texts of the Scientific Revolution.

Francis also expressed criticism of Aristotle's philosophy, arguing that his research method was too dogmatic and did not advance science. He called for more open inquiry and rejected authority-based dogmas.
