Jacob and Wilhelm were born on January 4, 1785 and February 24, 1786, respectively, in Ganau, a small town in Hesse, Germany. Their childhood passed in an atmosphere of romanticism and interest in folk culture. The Grimm family was large and poor, and the brothers had to fight for their education and future.
Jacob and Wilhelm both showed outstanding abilities in linguistics and literature while still in school. Both brothers went to the University of Marburg, where they studied philology and folklore. Here they received a critical education, which became the basis for their future career.
An important stage in their career was their joint study of German folklore. They began collecting and recording German tales, legends and myths to preserve them for future generations. Their work collecting folklore attracted the attention of the scientific community and became the starting point for the creation of the Brothers Grimm.
Following their passion for preserving and studying folklore, Jacob and Wilhelm published their first collection of fairy tales in 1812, entitled "Children's and Home Folklore." However, real fame came to them with the release of "Tales of the Brothers Grimm" in 1812 and 1815. This collection of more than 200 fairy tales and legends has become a classic of children's literature and part of the cultural heritage of many countries.
