Gangs of New York (2002)

The film is set in 1860s New York City, when the city is at its peak but also riven by conflicts between various gangs and ethical factions vying for control of territories and influence. Growing up in this dangerous and tense environment is Amsterdam Wallon, the son of an Irish migrant killed during an inter-bandit brawl, who swears revenge on his father.

Growing up, Amsterdam returns to New York, where he joins the gang of the imperious and cruel Weill "God," who owns the Five Points area. Amsterdam seeks to gain Weill's trust to carry out his revenge, but he also discovers complex internal conflicts and friendly bonds with other gang members such as Johnny and Jenny.

In the process, Amsterdam meets Jenny Everday, a beauty who is part of a society seeking change and progress in New York City. Having fallen in love with Jenny, Amsterdam faces a dilemma between his feelings and revenge that haunts him.

Things get even more complicated when Parry Lowe, an ambitious and charismatic politician whose ambitions and goals question Weill's stability and power, arrives in New York. The gangs begin preparing for war, which leads to violent battles and mass clashes that affect the fate of all the main characters.
