Wilkie Collins - Biography

Collins is a name that remains an eternal symbol of secret romance and detective literature. He was one of the greatest writers of the 19th century and a master of the genre who produced a number of influential and incredibly popular works. Wilkie was born on 8 January 1824 in London, the son of painter William Collins and his wife Harriet Anna. His family was creative and educated, and from childhood Willkie was surrounded by books and art. He was educated at Maidenhead College and later entered Lincoln Inn to study law. However, his true passion has always been literature.

Wilkie began his literary career as an article writer and correspondent for various magazines and newspapers. His first literary success was the novel Antonina, or the Fall of Rome, published in 1850. This was the beginning of his long and successful career in literature.

The most famous work of Wilkie Collins was The Woman in White, published in 1860. This novel, mixing elements of mysticism, detective and social criticism, became an instant bestseller and brought Collins worldwide fame. The novel investigates themes of deception, identity, and social norms, and it has influenced many subsequent authors.

Collins' other famous work is The Moonstone, published in 1868. This novel is considered one of the first detective works in the history of literature and became the progenitor of the detective genre. "The Moon and Sezid" describes the mysterious disappearance of the gem and the investigation that follows it.

The work of Wilkie Collins is distinguished by a deep analysis of social and moral issues. He often explored character psychology and created complex characters, and used plot twists and mysteries to keep readers on their toes. His works are marked by a unique structural approach and expressive style.
