Anderson was born on May 1, 1969, in Houston, Texas. His early years were a major influence on his future art. raised in a family of seven children, and in this atmosphere he began to develop his imagination and interest in art. His father worked in the oil industry and his mother was a designer. These influences became the foundation for his future career.

After leaving school, Wes entered the University of Texas at Austin, where he became interested in cinema. His decision to become a director was part of his long and careful journey in cinematography.
