Humberto's literary career began with the publication of his first book, The Experience of Semiotics (Il problema estetico in San Tommaso) in 1956. However, real fame and recognition came with the publication of his novel "The Name of the Rose" (Il nome della rosa) in 1980. This novel, which immediately became a bestseller and was translated into many languages, is considered one of the greatest literary works of the 20th century.

"The Name of the Rose" is a historical detective story deployed to the monastery in the Middle Ages, and it combines elements of mysticism, philosophy, and intrigue. The novel became a symbol of Eko's ability to combine deep intellectual reflections with a fascinating plot. The book was filmed with success and immortalized the name Umberto Eco in world literature.

His next works, such as Foucault's Pendulum and The Island of the Day Before, continued to impress readers with complex subjects and philosophical themes. remained true to his interests in semiotics and philosophy, and his books were always deeply thought-provoking.
