O'Brien: Master of Military Prose and Deep Psychology

Timothy James was born on October 1, 1946 in Austin, Minnesota, USA. His family was an ordinary average American family, and he grew up in an atmosphere of ordinariness and normality, which in the future would be a contrast to his literary works.

In 1968, during the Vietnam War, Tim was called up for military service. He served in an infantry division and saw action in Vietnam. The war had a huge impact on his life and later became the main theme of his literary work.

In 1990, Tim published his famous novel The Things They Carried. This work has become one of the most important in American military literature and tells about the Vietnam War and the psychological trauma of soldiers.
