Sylvia Day - Biography

Plath, better known as Day, is a name that will live forever in the history of American literature as a symbol of strength, passion and talent. Her poems, often reflecting themes of mental gravitation and emotional experiences, had a huge impact on world poetry. Let's dive into the biography of this outstanding poetess and consider her contribution to world literature and culture.

Sylvia Plath was born on October 27, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. She was the second child of Otto Emerson Plath and Ortensia Frances Plath. Her childhood was not easy due to the early death of her father, which left an indelible mark on Sylvia's soul.

Sylvia showed literary ability from an early age and stood out for her intelligence. She attended various schools and universities, including Smith College, where she earned a bachelor's degree and distinguished herself as a talented writer and poet.

Sylvia began her literary career by publishing her poetry in various literary magazines. She was a passionate poet and her work often reflected themes of depression, death and female identity. Her poems addressed the dark side of human psychology, and she is considered one of the representatives of the poetry of "subjectivism" or "personal poetry."

Her first book of poetry, "Alive and Sharp with a Knife" (The Colossus), was published in 1960 to critical acclaim. However, Sylvia Day's real triumph came in the publication of her second book of poetry, Ariel, after her death. This book was published in 1965 and has become one of the most influential and recognizable works of the poetess.

Sylvia went through difficult times in her personal life. She was married twice, her first marriage ending in divorce. The second marriage, with the poet Ted Hughes, was also complex and conflicting. They had two children, but the marriage ended in divorce, which left a deep mark on Sylvia's life.
