Ruth was born on April 22, 1921 in Augusta, Alabama, USA. Her childhood was marred by racial discrimination and social inequalities that characterized that era in the Southern States. She grew up in a family where education and activism were valued, and this greatly influenced her future.

Wehren graduated from Montgomery High School and attended the University of Alabama, where she studied sociology and anthropology. Her education was the first step toward active participation in the civil rights movement.

Ruth joined the civil rights movement in the 1950s when she became an activist and leader in the fight for equal rights for black people. Her most famous achievement involves a historic march in Selma, Alabama in 1965 that became known as the "Selma to Montgomery March." This march was aimed at fighting for the right of the black population to vote and became an important stage in the civil rights movement.

Ruth Warren was one of the organizers of this march and subsequently became the face of the civil rights movement. Her bold actions and unyielding commitment to equality have made her a symbol of this era and inspired many other activists.

An important moment in her fight for civil rights was the federal Voter Rights Act of 1965, which banned racial discrimination in voting. This law was recognized as a key step toward ensuring equal rights for all citizens of the United States.
