Ruth joined the civil rights movement in the 1950s when she became an activist and leader in the fight for equal rights for black people. Her most famous achievement involves a historic march in Selma, Alabama in 1965 that became known as the "Selma to Montgomery March." This march was aimed at fighting for the right of the black population to vote and became an important stage in the civil rights movement.
