In his youth, his family moved to the city of Konya, which was part of the Seljuk Empire. However, the most important event in Rumi's life was a meeting with Shams-i Tabrizi, a mystical teacher and philosopher, in 1244. This meeting became key in his spiritual path and inspired him to create his greatest poetic works. The relationship between Rumi and Shams symbolizes sincere spiritual love and the search for truth.
Influenced by spiritual experiences and meeting Shams, Rumi began to write his poems, which became known as "Masnavi-i-Ma'navi" or simply "Masnavi." Based on the teachings of Rumi and his poetry, the Mevlevi order was created, also known as the order of the Sufis or "dancing dervishes."
