"The Golden Donkey" tells the story of a young man named Lucius, who, wanting to experience magical powers, turns into a donkey. Lucius Apuleius was also a philosopher and interested in religious matters. His work "Metamorphoses" contains many elements of plutonic philosophy and religious rites, including initiations into the cult of the goddess Isis. At this time, the cult of Isis became popular in Rome, and Apuleius became an active supporter of this religious tradition.
