Walpole (Horace Walpole) is a name that is associated with versatile creativity and multifaceted contributions to the art, literature and politics of the XVIII century. An Irish writer, politician and historian, he left an indelible mark on the cultural and political history of his time. Horatio was born on 24 September 1717 in London, UK, the son of the English politician Sir Robert Walpole, who served as Prime Minister. His childhood was marked by outstanding educational opportunities, and he trained at the famous Eton School and at King's College Cambridge.

Horatio gained fame as a writer and became one of the earliest representatives of Gothic literature. His most famous work was the novel The Castle of Otranto, which was published in 1764. This novel is considered one of the first Gothic novels and became a model for many subsequent authors in this genre. Walpole's Gothic novels were distinguished by mystery, mysticism and mystery.

Walpole was also an avid art and antiques collector. He inherited the famous Straw Hill building, which became his residence and personal museum. He recreated it in the style of Palladian architecture and filled it with an art collection that included valuable works of art and antiques.

In addition to his literary and artistic activities, Horatio Walpole was also involved in politics. He served in the House of Commons and was a Member of Parliament. His political career was associated with the 18th century British era, and he supported important reforms and political changes of his time.
