Francis Scott Kay - Biography

Francis Scott was born on August 25, 1779 in Terry, Maryland, United States. He was the fourth child in a family of wealthy landowners. His parents, John Ross and Ann Arnold Pennington, provided him with an excellent education, and he went to study at St. John's College, owned by the University of Pennsylvania.

Francis Scott began his literary career writing poetry and essays as a youth. His work was marked by deep thoughts and a creative approach to the word. He was known for his ability to convey emotions and ideas through poetry, and his later works became a reflection of his deep faith and patriotism.

The most famous work of Francis Scott Kay was the text of the national anthem of the United States - "The Star-Spangled Banner." This verse was written during the War of 1812 while aboard a British ship observing the defenses of Fort McHenry in Baltimore. Impressed by the courage of American advocates, he wrote poems that were subsequently set to music and became the national anthem of the United States.
