Dmitry was born on October 9, 1891 in the village of Semenovskoye, which was located in the Tambov province of the Russian Empire. His childhood passed in the atmosphere of rural life, and this subsequently affected his literary works, in which he described the realities of the Russian village.

At the beginning of his literary career, he wrote poetry and essays, but he began to enjoy real popularity after the publication of his novel "Chapaev" in 1923. This work tells about the life and exploits of the revolutionary commander Vasily Chapaev and his faithful comrade Pyotr Vasiliev. The novel became not only one of the symbols of Soviet Russia, but also a classic of Russian literature.

"Chapaev" was recognized as one of the greatest literary achievements of the Soviet era and had a significant impact on the culture and art of the time. The book became the basis for many films, plays and other works of art.

However, Dmitry Furmanov did not limit himself only to literary activity. He was an active participant in the revolutionary movement and the events of the October Revolution of 1917. He joined the Red Army and fought on the fronts of the Civil War. His experience of military operations and participation in revolutionary events influenced his later work and style.

After the end of the Civil War, he became a member of the literary association "Flame" and continued his active literary activity. He wrote articles, essays and short stories that reflected his loyalty to the ideals of the revolution and his desire to create a new, fair social system.
