Dashil Gammet - Biography

n Gummett (real name Samuel Dashnell Gummett) is a name considered one of the most important in the history of the "black detective" genre. He became a true master of the hardball style, which left an unforgettable mark on the world of literature. In this biography, we look at the life and achievements of this extraordinary writer.

Dashiel was born on May 27, 1894 in Maryland, USA. He grew up in a family where his parents actively supported reading and education. In his youth, he was a passionate reader and dreamed of a career as a writer.

First, Dashil worked as a peddler of newspapers, and then fought in the First World War. After demobilization, he returned to work at the newspaper and began writing stories and articles. He also worked in various positions in private detective agencies, which prepared him to create realistic images of detectives.

Fame and success came to Dashil Gammett with the publication of his stories and novels about the life of detectives in the urban jungle. His first major success was the novel The Red Reaper (1929), which is considered one of the first works in the hardball detective genre. The main character, the unnamed "Boy in Black," quickly gained popularity as a tough and uncompromising private detective.

The next important stage in Gummett's career was the novel The Maltese Falcon (1930), in which he created the character of Sam Spade, who became one of the most famous icons of criminal literature. This novel has been filmed several times and remains a classic example of the genre.

Dashil left a rich literary heritage that continues to influence fans of detective literature and cinema. His works, such as The Maltese Falcon, The Lady in the Lake (1943), The Big Sleep (1939), The Thin Line (1934) and others, remained bestsellers and inspired other writers and directors.
