Arthur Schopenhauer - Biography

Schopenhauer's Biography - The Life and Philosophical Contribution of the Great German Philosopher

Arthur (Arthur Schopenhauer) is a name that remains in the history of philosophy as one of the most original and influential in the 19th century. A German philosopher, he was known for his studies of metaphysics, aesthetics, and ethics, and his work continues to generate interest and discussion in modern philosophy and culture. In this biography, we look at key moments in his life, education, philosophical beliefs and contributions to world thought.

Arthur was born on 22 February 1788 in Gdańsk, Prussia (now Poland). His family was educated and wealthy, and his father was a successful merchant. Having shown an early interest in philosophy and literature, Arthur went to study at the University of Göttingen and then in Berlin, where he was a student of Immanuel Kant, one of the greatest philosophers of the era.

Studying with Kant had a profound influence on the young Schopenhauer and became the starting point for his own philosophical activities. His dissertation "On Four-Factor Correlation" ("Über die vierfache Wurzel des Satzes vom zureichenden Grunde") was the first major philosophical work and included his first thoughts on understanding the world and the meaning of life.

The most famous and influential work of Arthur Schopenhauer was his book "The World as Will and Representation" ("Die Welt als Wille und Vorstellung"), published in 1818. In this work, he developed his philosophical system, including the concept of world will as a fundamental substance of reality. Schopenhauer offered an in-depth analysis of the nature of human suffering and tried to find ways to overcome it through aesthetic experience and ethics.

In addition to Peace as Will and Representation, he wrote many other important works, including the Essay on Free Will (Über die Freiheit des Willens) and the Essay on Morality (Über die Grundlage der Moral). These works touch on topics such as free will, morality and the meaning of life, and they have influenced many philosophers and writers.
