The novel was distinguished by its deep philosophy and metaphysical reflections.

The most famous works were the stories "Horseshoe" (1931) and the novel "Pit" (1939). In them, he continued to touch upon important social and philosophical topics, creating works that are now considered classics of Russian literature.
