City of God (2002)

The main character of the film, Raquel, a boy from a poor family, tells the story of his life and the world around him in the "City of God" area. This area got its name because of the lawlessness and violence prevailing on its streets, where children are brought up under the influence of gangs and criminal elements.

Raquel talks about his friend, Juliano, who dreams of becoming a photographer, but is drawn into the world of crime and banditry. Influenced by Lil'Zé, a ruthless and violent drug lord, Juliano begins his journey in a world of drugs and crime, where life is valued far less than money and power.
