Amistad (1997)

The film begins with the events aboard the Amistad, where African slaves rebel against their invaders, killing most of the crew. After successfully seizing the vessel, the slaves face a lawsuit in the United States that brings them face to face with the American legal system and international diplomacy.

The film's central character is Kingo, played by Jomi Abubakar, the leader of the uprising on "Amistad." With incredible strength and resilience, he stands to defend his right to freedom and justice. During the trial, a lawyer from Massachusetts, Teddy Joj, played by Matthew McConaughey, who becomes the main fighter for the liberation of African slaves and the prosecution of their invaders, comes to his side.

The film explores a variety of topics, including issues of slavery, racial bias, human rights, and moral dilemmas.
