The style of the book is a combination of artistic and linguistic techniques with which the author expresses his thoughts. It determines how the text will be perceived: whether it is easy to read, whether it evokes emotions, whether it remains in memory.

The main types of style in literature

1. The artistic style is full of images, metaphors and emotional descriptions. Used in novels, stories, poetry.
2. The scientific style is accurate, strict, with clear formulations and evidence. It is used in textbooks, scientific works.
3. Journalistic style - combining elements of scientific and imagery. Characteristic of articles, essays, journalism.
4. The spoken style is light and simple, close to live speech. Often found in modern fiction.

How style affects perception

The language of the book shapes its atmosphere. Laconic texts are quick to read, and rich artistic descriptions create an immersive effect.
The genre determines the style: for example, dynamics and intrigue are important in a detective story, and depth of thought in a philosophical novel.
The author's personality makes each book unique: Dostoevsky's style differs from Chekhov's, and Tolstoy does not look like Hemingway.

Why it's important to understand style

Understanding style helps to better perceive literature and consciously choose books. The reader can select works not only by plot, but also by how close the language and form of the narrative are to him.
