In a city drowned in despair, Mark Tessey feels time pulling strength out of it, and the atmosphere of the city destroys all feelings and hopes. Only Lay sleeps calmly, despite the whole terrible situation, as if she is in a serene dream outside this hellish world.

Mark's thoughts take him back, to the world before the disaster, to the world where he saw the brilliance of the Empire in Moscow. The Empire Mall, with its gilded details and tall balconies, appears to him as a symbol of the technological advance that seems to have consumed humanity, turning it into slaves to its own technology.

In this hunger-gripped reality, even dawn feels like an empty promise, and hope for the future has faded into darkness. Lord Athanael, the lord of the city, won this hopeless struggle, and every day brings only new trials for the survivors.

In moments of despair, even little Ilya, a child in a shelter, shouts his hatred for this life and this city, but even his voice drowns in silence of despair. The hermit, one of the survivors, tries to calm the boy, dragging him into the world of fairy tales, where the hedgehog and the hare lived.

At this time, Luke, another resident of the shelter, turns to the Hermit with a question about faith and religion, about the meaning of life and justice. The hermit, sharing the heaviness and hopelessness of the moment, ironically comments on human ideas about the divine and the just.

In the darkness of the city, when the scarlet glow of dawn gives way to a new day, the survivors are preparing for another meaningless day, where even the concept of "good" is covered with a black veil of hopelessness.

Sleeping Elijah, like a small angel, personifies the last hope of innocence and purity in this world affected by destruction. The hermit, in his wisdom, eliminates the boy's dark thoughts, involving him in the world of fairy tales and fantasies, where happy heroes live.

Luke, sitting in the dark next to the Hermit, asks hard questions about the nature of faith and justice, about the meaning of human existence in a world like this. The hermit, although he understands the gravity of these questions, finds in them irony and reflection of the madness of the world in which they have to survive.

Maria Filatova, entering the shelter, brings some light and warmth to this cold and hopeless world. Her presence is a reminder of human connection and compassion, of the hope that even in the darkest of times there is room for kindness and care.

And so, at this time, when the scarlet glow of dawn illuminates the dying city, the survivors continue to fight for every new day, for every moment of hope and humanity, despite all the trials thrown at them by fate.
