William Catlin was born on September 25, 1897 in Oxford, Mississippi, into a family of wealthy land owners. From childhood, he developed an interest in literature and began writing short stories and poetry. His childhood in rural Mississippi greatly influenced his future work.

Faulkner began his literary career as a poet and wrote poetry, but his true talent blossomed in novels and short stories. His first novel, Sartoris, was published in 1929. His next novel, The Sound and the Fury, became one of his most famous works and amazed readers with its bold structure and style.

One of the most famous novels is Light in August, published in 1932. This novel, like many of his other works, explores themes of racism and moral degradation in American society.
