Wilfred Owen - Biography

Owen is a name that is forever associated with English poetry and living memory of the First World War. His poems are imbued with passion, melancholy and a deep sense of compassion for soldiers who fought on the front lines. In this biography, we invite you to immerse yourself in the life and work of this great poet.

Wilfred Edward Salter was born on 18 March 1893 in Shropshire, England. He grew up in a middle-class family and developed an interest in literature and poetry from an early age. Wilfred began writing poetry while still at school, and his talent was obvious to teachers and comrades.

After leaving school, he entered the university in London and then in France, where he studied language and literature. These years of study and travel had a great influence on his poems and prepared him for a future literary career.

Upon returning to England, Wilfred faced the horrors of World War I, in which he volunteered to join the army. The war became a key event in his life and had a huge impact on his work. He served on the front line, where he faced the horrors of war, the loss of friends and the suffering of soldiers.

Owen began writing poetry to express his desperate protest against the war and its horrors. His poems, such as "Dulce et Decorum Est" and "Anthem for Doomed Youth," became symbols of the senselessness and pain of war. He used his literary talent to draw attention to the horrors of war and curse those who glorified it.

Wilfred was not widely recognized during his life, but his poetry was published in several literary magazines and attracted the attention of a small circle of readers. However, after his death, his poems received acclaim and rave reviews from critics and readers. His poems became compulsory material for study in schools and universities, and his name became forever associated with English poetry of the First World War.
