Garcia Capoti (September 30, 1924 - August 25, 1984) is a name that is associated with the American literary elite of the 20th century. His books, stylistically close to the literature of avant-garde and realism, have left an indelible mark on world literature and continue to inspire readers around the world.Truman Kapoti was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to a family of Greek-Irish descent. His childhood was not easy. His parents divorced when he was still a young boy, and he moved to Monroe, Louisiana to live with relatives. From childhood, Truman Kapoti developed an interest in reading and writing. His teacher at the school, Nanci Smith, noticed his literary talent and supported him in his development. This early attention and support was instrumental in shaping his future literary career.

In 1965, Truman Kapoti published one of his most famous works, the novel Black Afternoon. This novel was based on a real-life murder committed in the small town of Holcomb, Kansas. He investigated the impact of this crime on society and the psychology of people, and also touched on the topics of justice and punishment.
"Black Afternoon" became a literary masterpiece and received many awards and recognition. This novel also became the starting point for the development of a new genre - nonfiction.
