Terry Brooks' first book, The Sword of Shannara, was published in 1977 and became an immediate bestseller. This novel tells the story of a young hero, Shea Alls, and his companions, who go in search of a magic sword to fight an evil tyrant. The book quickly won millions of readers and became the first book in the epic Shannara series.

The Shannara series has become a fantasy literature phenomenon and consists of many books telling about various periods and heroes in this world. Terry continued to develop this fantasy world, adding new elements and characters, and his work was always expected events among fans.
