Freud is a name that stands at the head of psychoanalytic theory and practice. Sigmund was born on 6 May 1856 in Freiberg, Moravia (now Czech Republic). His family life and early years were marked by difficult economic conditions and numerous siblings. grew up in a family of Jewish merchants and moved to Vienna, Austria, at the age of fourteen.

After graduating from high school, he entered the Medical School of the University of Vienna, where he studied medicine and began his journey to psychology and neurology. He took a keen interest in the work of Jean-Martin Charcot and studies of the nervous system.

Sigmund developed psychoanalytic theory, which became his main scientific contribution. He proposed a new way of understanding the human psyche and behavior, based on the study of unconscious processes and children. His key concepts were:
