Samuel Beckett - Biography

Beckett is a name that has become a symbol of contemporary literature and theatre. This Irish writer and playwright has left an incredible mark on art history, creating works that evoke reflection on the meaning of life, human nature and the absurdity of existence. Let's dive into Beckett's biography, from his childhood to his influence on contemporary art and society.

Samuel was born on 13 April 1906 in Foxrock, a suburb of Dublin, Ireland. His family was educated and culturally rich, and the young Samuel began to show an early interest in literature and art. He attended Trinity College, Dublin, and first began publishing his poems and short stories.

Samuel began his career as a teacher of French, and this influenced his later work. He moved to Paris and began to study philosophy and literature. Attention to the French literary tradition and contacts with famous writers influenced his style and worldview.

Beckett's most famous work, the play "Waiting for Godot" (1953), has become a symbol of the theater of the absurd. In this play, two characters await the arrival of Godot, a man they may never have seen. The play explores the theme of the meaninglessness and absurdity of human life. The theater of the absurd, in which he became an important figure, focused on the meaninglessness of being and the complexity of human communication.

In addition to theatre, Beckett also experimented with literature. His novel "Moth" (1951) became one of the outstanding works of literature of the 20th century. In this work, he used the techniques of stream of consciousness and absurd plots to explore the psychology of the main character.

Samuel was known for his secretive nature and avoided publicity. His philosophy often reflected the alienation and meaninglessness of life, but at the same time, an element of a deep sense of human solidarity was always present in his works.
