Salman Rushdie - Biography

Rushdie was born on 19 June 1947 in Bombay, then part of the British Empire but today known as Mumbai, India. His family was highly educated and culturally diverse. My father worked in the oil industry, and my mother was a teacher. Rushdie grew up in an atmosphere where books and education were valued.

Salman received bachelor's and master's degrees in history and English literature from the University of Cambridge. His studies strengthened his love of literature and became an inspiration for future creativity. During his studies, he began writing his first stories and poems.

Salman began his literary career as an advertising copywriter, but soon switched to writing. His debut novel was "The Thunder Son" ("Grimus"), which was published in 1975. However, his real literary breakthrough was the novel Midnight's Children, released in 1981. This novel, mixing real events with magical realism, brought the Booker Prize and world fame.

Salman became known not only for his literary achievements, but also because of the book "The Satanic Verses," published in 1988. This book caused huge scandals and led to forced emigration and even forced fatal fatwa, or religious fatwa (fatwa) by the Iranian Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, accusing him of blasphemy. spent years in stealth and under guard.

For many years, Salman Rushdie actively defended freedom of speech and his right to creativity. His struggle for freedom of expression and against censorship became a symbol for many writers and intellectuals around the world. In 1998, an Iranian government decree that threatened his life was canceled, but Rushdie continues his struggle for freedom of speech and tolerance.

In addition to Midnight's Children and Satanic Verses, Salman wrote many other novels, including The Satanic Verses, Haroun and the Sea of ​ ​ Stories, and The Highway of Blessings orence "). His work is often drawn from the rich heritage of literature, art and history.
