Robert Macfarlane - Biography
MacFarlane was born on 15 August 1976 in Nottingham, England. His childhood was spent surrounded by nature, and he divided his time between urban life and adventures in the countryside. This duality of perception of the world, both urban and natural, became one of the foundations of the theme of his future works. After leaving school, Robert went to Oxford University, where he studied English literature. His education became the foundation for his future literary career and passion for nature. At Oxford he was also exposed to ideas of ecology and landscape literature, which deeply influenced his work.
Robert began his literary career as an academic specialising in English literature and natural poetry. His doctoral thesis was on natural imagery in 19th and 20th century British literature.
Subsequently, he became a famous author and naturalist, whose works conquered readers around the world. One of his more famous works is the book "The Wild Places," published in 2007. In this book, he recounts his travels across Britain in search of the last wild and untouched corners of nature. The book became a bestseller and brought attention to wildlife conservation issues.
Robert MacFarlane is not limited only to literary activity - he is also actively involved in nature studies. His interest in geography, ecology and geology led him to study various natural phenomena and landscapes.
In 2010, he released the book "The Old Ways," in which he describes his travels along old roads and paths, exploring not only the physical aspects of landscapes, but also their historical and cultural context. His works combine literature, geography and natural history, allowing readers to see the world from a new, deeper perspective.
