Rachel received a bachelor's degree in English literature from William Jewell College in Missouri and then a master's degree in English literature from the University of Kansas. Her education and study of classical and modern literature marked an important stage in her writing career.

Her literary start came in the early 2000s, when she began writing youth novels. Her first book, "Gingerbread" (Gingerbread), was published in 2002 and was the first step towards literary success. This novel, like many of her subsequent works, explored themes of teenage relationships, family secrets, and the search for self-identity.

Rachel Carter gained the greatest fame and popularity thanks to her series of books called "The Gallagher Girls" (Girls from the Gallagher School). This series, starting with the first book, "I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You," tells about the adventures of girls studying at a boarding school for future spies. Books from this series became bestsellers and won a loyal audience of teenagers.

Rachel has also written other popular series and individual novels including "Heist Society" (Robber Society), "Embassy Row" (Embassy Street) and "Not If I Save You First" (If I Save You First). Her books are often popular with younger readers for their interesting plots, sharp dialogue and diverse characters.
