Pierre (Pierre Corneille) is a name that is associated with the golden period of French literature and classicism. He is considered one of the great playwrights of France and a master of tragedy. Pierre was born on 6 June 1606 in Rouen, France, the son of a lawyer. In his youth, he received a good education and showed interest in literature. He began his career as a lawyer, but soon decided to devote himself to literature.

Corneille began his literary career as a poet and playwright. His first poems were published in 1629, and they brought attention to his talent. However, he achieved real fame in the genre of tragedy. His first tragedy, "Melchizedek" (Mélite), was staged in 1629 and immediately attracted the attention of the public.

The most famous works are his tragedies. He created many tragedies, including "Blue Bearded" (Le Cid), "Polyeuct" (Polyeucte) and "Rodebeck" (Rodogune), which became classics of French literature. His work was distinguished by outstanding dialogues, deep characters and complex plots.

Corneille had a significant influence on the French literature of his time. His style and approach to drama became exemplary for many writers and playwrights. He is also considered one of the founders of classicism, a movement that valued clarity, measure and logic in art.
