Mary Shelley - Biography

Shelley Biography: Author of "Frankenstein" and Literary Mastermind

Mary (August 30, 1797 - February 1, 1851) is a name associated with one of the most famous and influential novels in literary history. The English writer became famous for her work Frankenstein, or Modern Prometheus, which has become a classic of the horror and science fiction genre. In this biography, we look at key moments in Mary Shelley's life and work.

Mary was born in London, in the family of the writer and philosopher William Godwin and the writer Mary Wollstonecraft, known for her feminist ideas. Mary's childhood was difficult after the loss of her mother, who died shortly after her birth.

She was a very intellectual child and well educated. Her father, William Godwin, stimulated her mental development, allowing her to read a wide range of books and teaching her literary and philosophical art.

In 1814, at the age of 17, Mary met Percy Shelley, a talented poet and philosopher who was a friend of her father. This meeting changed her life and became a source of creative stimulation. Their passionate discussions of literature, philosophy and politics inspired Mary to start writing her own works.

In 1816, Mary and Percy went to Switzerland, where they spent the summer with a friend named Lord Byron and his companionship. During this trip, they regularly read scary stories and held competitions in writing terrible stories.
