Mark Twain - Biography

Twain, real name Samuel Lenghorn Clemens, is a name that evokes associations with adventure, humor and iconic literary works. Born in 1835 in Florida, Missouri, he became one of the most influential American writers of the 19th century and left an indelible mark on literary history. Let's dive into Twain's biography, from his early years to his contributions to culture and literature.

Mark was born to John Marshall Clemens and Jane Lampton Clemens on November 30, 1835. He was the sixth child in the family, and his childhood was spent on the banks of the Mississippi River. The most striking part of his youth was a period spent on a steamer, where he worked as a pilot's assistant. This experience became the basis for his future works.

At first Mark worked as a printer in newspapers and magazines, but his real vocation was in writing. His first publication was a travelogue on the Asian coast, and thereafter he became active in writing. His pseudonym "Mark Twain" was borrowed from the expression used to measure the depth of water during steamboat trips.

Mark became famous for his novels about the adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. His writing brought a fresh perspective on American literature and life in the southern United States. These novels became classics of children's literature and remain popular to this day.

The Mississippi River has left an indelible mark on the life and work of Mark Twain. His experience on steamboats and traveling on the river inspired him to write several works, including "Life on the Mississippi" and "The Way on the Mississippi." In these works, he described his adventures and impressions of life on the river.

Mark was also famous for his humor. His humorous stories, such as "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," made readers laugh and in doing so carried deep meaning and criticism of the society of their time. His ability to create funny characters and comic situations made him one of literature's greatest humorists.
