Louisa May Alcott - Biography

Louise May was born on November 29, 1832, in Germantown, Pennsylvania, to Francis and Abby May Alcott. She was the second of four children and had three sisters: Anna, Elizabeth and Abigail. Louise's childhood was far from rich, and she grew up in an atmosphere of family kindness and support.

The Alcott family was pro-education and Louise received her basic education in private schools and at home. She was a teacher and worked in different schools. Her teaching experience and desire for knowledge became the foundation of her future literary career.

Louise May began her literary career writing poetry and short stories for various magazines. Her first works were published anonymously, but soon her talent was recognized by her.

However, the real breakthrough was the novel Little Women, published in 1868. This novel about the adventures and lives of four sisters - Meg, Joe, Beth and Amy, who became symbols of family affection and female friendship, became a world bestseller. The book was so successful that Louisa May Alcott wrote a sequel to "Little Women" and became one of the most popular writers of her time.
