However, his childhood was far from carefree. Kurt grew up during the Great Depression and survived the uncontrolled case of the family's finances. This experience left a deep mark on his worldview and influenced his future creativity.

In 1940, Kurt Vonnegut entered Cornell University, but his education was interrupted after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Vonnegut voluntarily went to the front and became a soldier in the American army. He saw action in Europe during World War II and was even taken prisoner during the Battle of Baston.

In captivity, Kurt faced the horrors of war and witnessed the bombing of Dresden. This experience became the basis for his most famous work, the novel "Slaughterhouse-Five," in which he described the bombing and its effect on the psyche of soldiers.
