The first publication of Ken Follett was the novel The Big Needle, which he published in 1974. This novel was immediately recognized as successful, and he began to build his literary career.

However, true world success came to Ken Follett with the release of his novel The Key to Rebecca in 1980. This novel, based on the events of World War II, became a bestseller and brought the writer recognition from readers around the world.
