Carl was born on August 5, 1953 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States. After graduating from high school, he entered the University of Florida, where he studied journalism and literature. His passion for word and writing began to shine through his university years. He quickly attracted the attention of his faculty with his talent and passion for journalism.

After graduating from university, Karl Hiaasen began his career in journalism. He worked for various newspapers including the "Miami Herald," where he became known for his investigations into corruption and environmental issues. His style of journalism was extraordinary and witty, and he often expressed his point of view through sarcasm and humor.

Although Karl was a successful journalist, his real passion was always literature. In 1981, he published his first novel, "Almighty," which immediately drew rave reviews and attracted the attention of readers. This novel, like many subsequent works, was a mixture of black humor, adventure, and environmental themes.
