Joseph Albert was born on May 1, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in a family of Jewish immigrants from Russia and Poland. Joseph's most famous and influential work was Catch-22, published in 1961. This novel became a symbol of the absurdity of military bureaucracy and the senselessness of war. It tells the story of a bomber squadron during World War II and the protagonist, Captain John Joseph Yosarian, tries to find a way to avoid sorties while facing absurd rules and paradoxes.

"Catch-22" became a literary event and aroused great interest among both readers and critics. The novel became a symbol of the anti-war movement and expressed dissatisfaction with the war and bureaucracy. It was filmed and had a huge impact on the culture and literature of the 1960s.
