John Ray was born on April 27, 1945 in Jacksonville, Florida, USA. His childhood was spent in the warm atmosphere of South Florida, and this area had a profound influence on his work. John grew up in a large family and at an early age showed interest in reading and literature.

After leaving school, John entered the University of Florida, where he studied English literature. During this time he also developed an interest in journalism and began writing articles for the university newspaper. The debut of John Gresham as a writer took place in 1971 with the release of his first book, "The Adventures of Tobishka" (A Painted House), which was recognized as a bestseller. However, the real success was the novel "The Quirks of Heavenly Nature" (The Testament), published in 1997. This novel, about the adventures of a lawyer who becomes independent of the world of material values, became one of John Gresham's best-selling books and won the Pulitzer Prize.

His further books, such as "Atonement" (The Redemption), "Executioners and Judges" (The Summons) and "Apocalypse" (The Apocalypse), were also popular and were recognized by both critics and readers. In his works, he drew attention to issues of faith, justice and morality, which made his books relevant and inspiring.
