John was born on October 30, 1735 in Braintree, Massachusetts, British America (present-day Quincy, Massachusetts). His family was modest but well off, and he received a quality education. After graduating from Harvard University, he decided to become a lawyer and entered the practice of law.

John was an early supporter of American independence and actively participated in the struggle against British colonial power. He was a delegate to the Continental Congress and took part in the creation of the Declaration of Independence. After the successful completion of the Revolutionary War and the creation of the United States, John became the first vice president under the leadership of George Washington and later took over as the second president of the United States.
