George Orwell - Biography

Orwell is a name associated with strong and profound works that address topical public and political issues. Born on 25 June 1903 in Motihari, Bengal, India, he became one of the most important English writers of the 20th century. Let us delve into the biography of this extraordinary personality and consider his life, literary legacy and influence on the world.

George Orwell (real name Eric Arthur Blair) was born in colonial India, where his father worked in the bureaucracy of the British Empire. After the family returned to England, Orwell began his education in the Eton community, one of the most prestigious schools in the country. His childhood and experience studying in Etona had a profound influence on his later literary work and social views.

After graduating from the Etonian School, Orwell served in the colonial police in Burma (modern-day Myanmar). This period in his life was direct evidence of the British Empire and its restraint. The experience of serving in Burma entrenched his anti-imperialist beliefs and pushed for literary activity.

The first literary work of George Orwell was published in 1928 in the London newspaper Paris Observer. He continued to write articles and reviews for various publications and worked in journalism. His early works were predominantly descriptive, but over time he became more ambitious and touched on social and political topics.

In 1933, George Orwell published his first novel, "A Storm Under Sail." He also wrote the novels "Pride and Humiliation" (1934) and "Andreas Emmayuel" (1935). However, the real breakthrough for Orwell was the novel "In Search of Great Food" (1936), in which he described his experience of living in the East End of London and his sympathy for the poor and marginal segments of society.

In 1936, George Orwell went to Spain to take part in the Civil War, supporting the anti-fascist side. His impressions of the war and his experience in international brigades inspired him to write an essay, "Gommagi 1984" (1938), in which he analyzed the nature of totalitarianism and its threat to freedom and democracy.
