George Orwell - Biography

Orwell is a name that is associated with strong and profound works that touch on topical social and political issues. Born on June 25, 1903 in Motihari, Bengal, India, he became one of the most important English writers of the 20th century. Let's dive into the biography of this outstanding person and consider his life, literary heritage and impact on the world.

George Orwell (real name Eric Arthur Blair) was born in colonial India, where his father worked in the bureaucracy of the British Empire. After the family returned to England, Orwell began his education in the community of Eton, one of the most prestigious schools in the country. His childhood and learning experience at Eton had a profound impact on his later literary writing and social views.

After graduating from the Etonian School, Orwell served in the colonial police in Burma (modern Myanmar). This period in his life was a direct testament to the British empire and its restraints. The experience of serving in Burma rooted his anti-imperialist beliefs and pushed him to literary activity.

The first literary work of George Orwell was published in 1928 in the London newspaper Paris Observer. He continued to write articles and reviews for various publications and worked in journalism. His early writing was predominantly descriptive, but over time he became more ambitious and touched on social and political themes.

In 1933, George Orwell published his first novel, "The Tempest Under Sail." He also wrote the novels "Pride and Humiliation" (1934) and "Andreas Emmayuel" (1935). However, a real breakthrough for Orwell was the novel "In Search of Big Food" (1936), in which he described his experience of living in the East End of London and his sympathy for the poor and marginalized in society.

In 1936, George Orwell went to Spain to take part in the Civil War, supporting the anti-fascist side. His impressions of the war and his experience serving in international brigades inspired him to write the essay "Gommagi 1984" (1938), in which he analyzed the nature of totalitarianism and its threat to freedom and democracy.
