George Eliot - Biography

Eliot, real name Mary Ann Evans (1819-1880), is a name that will forever remain in the memory of world literature as a symbol of the power of intelligence and creativity. In this biography, we look at Eliot's life and work, her contributions to literature and society, and the eternal values she presented to the world.

Mary Ann Evans was born on 22 November 1819 in Warwickshire, England, the daughter of a farmer. Her early years were modest, but she showed a unique intelligence and desire for knowledge. Mary Ann was sent by her family to a girls' school in Noone Eton, where she was educated and developed her mind.

She subsequently moved to London, where she began working as a journalist and editor. Her extensive knowledge and passion for literature helped her forge a successful career in the world of journalism and literature.

Under the pseudonym George Eliot, Mary Ann Evans began writing her first stories and novels. In 1859, she published her debut novel, "Adam Bede," which became an immediate bestseller. This novel about love and morality in a rural manner was recognized as a great literary achievement.

However, the real skill of George Eliot was her next works, including "Dear Friend" (1860), "Silmarillon" (1861), "A Means to Life" (1861) and "Middlemarch" (1871). These novels made her famous as one of the greatest English writers of the 19th century. Her literary style was unsurpassed, and the deep characters and moral dilemmas of her characters were admired by readers.

George was known for her philosophical reflections and moral convictions. She was a critic of the social norms of her time and often raised themes of social injustice, religious dogma, and gender equality in her writing. Her philosophical approach to literature made her works deeper and more meaningful.
