Emily Brontë - Biography
Brontë (1818-1848) is a name that sounds like a hymn to the passion and grandeur of English literature. This mysterious and insular writer left an invaluable contribution to world literature, creating works that remained out of time and space. In this biography, we look at Brontë "s life and work, its impact on literature and society, and why her writing continues to elicit admiration and surprise.Emily Jane was born on 30 July 1818 in Thornton, West Yorkshire, England to a parish priest and his wife. She was the fifth of six children and a girl with extraordinary literary talent. As a child, she, along with her siblings, created fictional worlds and stories that became harbingers of her future works.
Education was received at home, where the father paid great attention to the education of his children. Emily and her sisters had access to a wide literary library, which greatly influenced their creative development.
The road to literary success began for Emily Brontë when she travelled with her sister Charlotte to Brussels for boarding school. There they were educated and lived for several years, but in 1842 Emily returned to her native Thornton.
Her debut novel, "Wuthering Heights," was published under the pseudonym Ellis Bell in 1847. The novel describes the life and passion of Katherine Earnshaw, a young resident of Wuthering Heights, and her relationship with the mysterious and passionate Gitcliffe. This work, full of picturesque landscapes and deep emotions, became one of the greatest novels of English literature.
Emily's next work was "Agness Gray" (1847), which was also published under a pseudonym. The novel tells about the life of a young teacher and her struggle for independence and justice.
