Ally was born on September 30, 1928 in the city of Sighet, which was located in what is now Romania. His family was Jewish and lived in conditions where cultural and religious heritage played an important role. Ellie was one of four children in the Wiesel family, and his parents encouraged his interest in education and religion.

In 1944, while Ellie was still a teenager, his family and thousands of other Jews were deported to Nazi concentration camps during the Holocaust. Ellie and his father were separated from their mother and younger sister, who later died. He himself survived the Auschwitz inferno and later the Buchenwald concentration camp, where he first met the liberators in April 1945.

Experiences experienced in concentration camps changed Ellie forever and influenced his writing talent. After his release, he decided to share his terrible experiences with the world so that the memory of the victims of the Holocaust would never disappear. His book "Night" (Elie Wiesel's "Night") became one of the most influential Holocaust literary works and was translated into many languages.
