Eldo Leopold - Biography
Leopold was born on January 11, 1887 in Bourg Oak, Yavapai, Arizona, United States. He grew up in a family where the values of nature and nature protection occupied an important place. His parents, Carl Leopold and Carolina Goetzeus, were educated people who paid much attention to the environment. This parental influence became the basis for Leopold's future conservation work.Eldo received a bachelor's degree in forest engineering from the University of Utah and a master's degree in forest science from Yale University. His education is of exceptional quality and prepared him for a future career in the field of forests and environmental protection.
After completing his education, Eldo worked as a forester in the western United States and was engaged in forest management. In 1924, he joined the United States Forest Service and began to engage in scientific activities and environmental research. His work was aimed at studying and improving the management of forests and natural resources.
However, Eldo gained the greatest fame and influence as an author and conservation philosopher. His book "Songs of Sundowns" ("A Sand County Almanac"), published in 1949, became a classic of environmental literature. In this book he describes his observations on nature and concludes that man should be an "accomplice" of nature, and not just a "predator." This book became the basis of modern environmental ethics and environmental philosophy.
His concept of "landscape ethics" implies that a person should perceive himself as part of the landscape and take care of preserving its biodiversity and ecological integrity. This idea had a significant impact on the development of environmental science and policy.
Eldo was an active supporter of the conservation movement and was involved in the development of conservation strategies. He was one of the founders and an active member of the American Association of Conservationists (The Wilderness Society) and other organizations dedicated to nature conservation.
