Edward Lear - Biography

Edward was born on 12 May 1812 in London, England. He was the fifteenth of twenty-two children in the family. According to family legend, his childhood was full of joy and carelessness. However, the death of his mother in 1817 and the discord in the family left a deep mark on Edward.

From an early age, Edward developed an interest in art. At the age of 16, he began studying painting with the famous artist William Hallman Hunt, which was the starting point of his artistic career. At first he worked as an illustrator and created images for books and magazines.

Edward quickly gained fame for his exceptional ability to create detail and accurate images of nature. His watercolours of nature, landscapes and illustrations of birds and animals became very popular and received recognition both in England and abroad.

However, Edward Lear was also a writer, and his poems and literary works also attracted the attention of the public. He is known for his "Book of Nonsense" (1846), in which he combined poetry and illustration in extraordinary and hilarious stories. This book became a real hit and continues to be popular among children and adults.

In addition, Edward accompanied scientific expeditions and travels and created illustrations for scientific research of nature. His works were not only artistic, but also important scientific documents.
