Doris Lessing - Biography

Doris May Taylor (later Lessing) was born on October 22, 1919 in Kermanshah, Persia (modern Iran). Her family background was diverse and multinational. Her father was British and her mother was an English colonist. The family moved to Africa, where she spent most of her childhood.

Doris received limited formal education, but was always a passionate reader and student of self-education. She began writing at a young age and continued to develop her talent as an adult. Her first publication was a short story published in 1937.

At the beginning of her career, Doris wrote in the genre of psychological realism and dealt with social topics. Her early novels, such as The Children of Violence, were critically acclaimed and considered important works of British literature.

However, real fame came to Doris Lessing with the novel The Golden Notebook, published in 1962. This novel became a cult work and brought her worldwide recognition. For her contributions to literature and research on social issues, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2007.

Doris' work covers a wide range of topics, including feminism, colonialism, politics, psychology, and social issues.
